Westerner Park is seeking a full-time General Service Employee to join our dynamic Event Delivery team. The General Service Employee plays a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless setup and execution of a wide variety of year-round events, including internal gatherings, special occasions, trade shows, consumer exhibitions, conventions, sports events, concerts, and other attractions. Reporting to the Assistant Manager, Event Delivery, this hands-on role requires adaptability, flexibility, and a commitment to delivering exceptional guest experiences.

Under the direction of the Assistant Manager, Event Delivery, the General Service Employee is responsible for the following:

Event Setup & Execution

  • Execute setup and breakdown for a wide range of events, including Banquet Event Order (BEO)-based internal and special events, trade shows, consumer exhibitions, conventions, sporting events, concerts, and attractions.
  • Collaborate with Supervisors, Client Services, and Managers to address client requests, find solutions, and maintain high service standards.
  • Ensure event areas, washrooms, and public spaces are clean and ready for guests before, during, and after events.
  • Set up and dismantle rooms, pavilions, and outdoor spaces efficiently, following operational and safety procedures.
  • Manage agricultural event logistics, including steel panels, horse stalling panels, and ground grooming equipment.
  • Work collaboratively with staff, suppliers, contractors, and volunteers to meet guest needs.
  • Perform facility openings and closures according to daily requirements and instructions.
  • Maintain show requirements such as temperature control, lighting, and garbage removal.

Maintenance & Equipment Operation

  • Undertake minor maintenance tasks including painting, wall repairs, furniture fixes, and light carpet cleaning.
  • Operate machinery and equipment such as hand tools, forklifts, skid steers, tractors, and floor scrubbers safely and effectively.
  • Conduct regular inspections of tools, equipment, and machinery, reporting maintenance concerns promptly.
  • Perform equipment checks and minor maintenance before and after operations.

Grounds & Facility Maintenance

  • Maintain sidewalks and parking lots through snow removal, salt spreading, sweeping, and garbage collection.
  • Care for lawns via mowing, mulching, aerating, weeding, and edging.
  • Assist in planting and maintaining annuals, perennials, shrubs, gardens, planters, memorial benches, and Harvest Gardens.
  • May assist with arborist duties depending on ability and training.

Additional Duties

  • Adapt to organizational needs and perform other tasks as required to meet the ongoing needs of Westerner Park.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including weekends and evenings, with start times ranging from 6:00 am to 2:30 am.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a minimum of 3 years driving history.
  • First Aid training required.
  • 1–2 years of event setup experience preferred.
  • 1–2 years of labor experience required.
  • 1–2 years of equipment operation experience considered an asset.
  • Basic computer skills to access email and documents as required.

Work Environment

  • Safety-sensitive position requiring lifting and handling of materials up to 75 lbs.
  • Exposure to various conditions including weather extremes, noise, dust, and working around animals.
  • Work schedule varies with major events and requires adaptability, flexibility, and a team-oriented approach.
