Facility Services & Compliance Labourer

The Facility Services & Compliance Labourer plays a key role in ensuring a safe work environment by actively working in the field alongside the crew while also supporting administrative safety functions. This position ensures compliance with Alberta’s Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) legislation, supports incident investigations, conducts worksite inspections, provides additional labour support, and supports the functioning of the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC).
Under the direction of the Manager, Park & Facility Services, the Facility Services & Compliance Labourer is responsible for the following:
Field Responsibilities:
Work directly with crews to promote and enforce safe work practices.
Conduct regular worksite inspections and hazard assessments, ensuring compliance with Alberta OHS legislation.
Provide hands-on safety training, coaching, and mentorship for employees.
Address and correct unsafe conditions or behaviors in real time.
Work with crews on the worksite providing additional general labour and maintenance team support.
Incident Review & Investigations:
Review and analyze incident reports, ensuring accurate documentation and compliance with reporting requirements.
Support and participate in workplace investigations, conducting root cause analysis and recommending corrective actions.
Assist in preparing and submitting reports to regulatory bodies as required.
Track trends in incidents and near-misses, developing strategies to mitigate future risks.
Provide raw data numbers to applicable stakeholders.
Worksite Inspections & Compliance:
Conduct scheduled and unscheduled worksite safety inspections, ensuring adherence to OHS standards.
Identify and document hazards, unsafe conditions, and procedural violations.
Recommend and oversee the implementation of corrective and preventative measures.
Ensure the organization remains compliant with all workplace safety regulations.
Work with all workers and lead the ongoing and formal hazard assessment processes.
Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) Oversight:
Act as the primary contact for the JHSC, ensuring it operates effectively.
Organize and lead JHSC meetings, preparing agendas, minutes, and follow-ups.
Work with committee members to identify safety concerns and drive improvements.
Ensure the JHSC meets all Alberta OHS legislative requirements.
Administrative & Training Responsibilities:
Maintain and update safety policies, procedures, and documentation in line with Alberta OHS legislation.
Develop and deliver safety training sessions, toolbox talks, and orientations.
Support the implementation of workplace safety programs and initiatives.
Monitor and ensure compliance with personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
Maintain safety records, including training logs, inspection reports, and compliance documentation.
This role is expected to adapt to changes and take on additional duties as required.

Here is what you bring:
Certificate or Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, or a related field.
Certification in First Aid, CPR, WHMIS, and other relevant safety training.
Strong knowledge of Alberta OHS legislation, regulations, and industry best practices.
Experience in a field-based health & safety role.
Strong communication and leadership skills to engage employees and management.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and safety reporting systems.
Ability to balance fieldwork with administrative responsibilities.
